ENGINE MONITORING FOR SPECIAL EQUIPMENT IN REAL TIME

Problem

Actual fuel consumption for mining and other special equipment is difficult to determine. Such vehicles are used to perform specific technological tasks and not to move over certain distances. How to calculate real consumption in this case? How to identify vehicles efficiency?

Operating time of engine is the only parameter that is used to measure fuel consumption. In this case there are many possibilities for manipulation with fuel. How to check vehicles load and operation mode? How much fuel was actually consumed?

Consequences

Manipulations with operation hours can be carried out in the following way: driver does not perform the work, but leaves engine on in the idle mode, then reports that worked for 8 hours and fuel consumption was 100 liters (while the real consumption was 20). The result: 80 liters of fuel was stolen.

Is this situation normal? Maybe it’s time to keep fuel consumption and operation hours under control?

Solution

Information about operation time can be received from vehicle’s standard equipment and from additional devices (for example, fuel flow meter measures fuel consumption and gives brief summary of engine operating time).

Operation time can be monitored by RPM signals or by information from CAN bus. Additional equipment must work safely in order not to cause damage of vehicles and reasons to cancel the guarantee.
